Course Description

  • Level: A2  to B1 
  • Target Audience: FIRST-year university students in Medicine and Computer Science (Batna2)
  • Prerequisites: A2 level of English on the CEFR scale. 

Course Overview:
This course provides a foundational introduction to the English language within the rapidly evolving context where medicine and computer science meet. Designed for A2 level students, the course focuses on building practical vocabulary, improving conversational fluency, and developing core reading and writing skills. Through engaging and accessible topics like robotics, artificial intelligence, and big data, students will learn how to communicate about basic technological concepts and their applications in the healthcare field. The supportive learning environment aims to build student confidence and bridge the gap to B1 proficiency.

 Overall Course Goal:
To equip students with the essential English language skills and confidence to understand, discuss, and write about fundamental concepts at the intersection of technology and medical science, thereby progressing from A2 to B1 level proficiency.

 Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Listening skill:
  • Understand the main points of clear, short, and slow speech about familiar topics like technology and health.
  • Extract specific information from short audio/video clips about medical technology

2. Speaking skill:

  • Describe a piece of technology or a medical concept in simple terms.
  • Participate in a simple conversation about how technology can help doctors and patients.
  • Give a short, prepared presentation on a chosen topic using basic visual aids.

3. Reading skill:

  • Understand the main idea of short, adapted texts about technological advancements in medicine.
  • Find specific, predictable information in simple brochures, website articles, and charts.

 4. Writing skill;

  • Write a short, simple paragraph describing a technological tool used in medicine
  • Write a series of simple sentences to summarize a text or a video they have encountered.

 5. Vocabulary and  Grammar

  • Use a core vocabulary related to key areas: basic computing, hospital environments, health, and simple data concepts.
  • Use basic grammatical structures (e.g., Present Simple, Past Simple, basic prepositions) with increased accuracy and some more complex sentences
